Education

We don’t claim to know everything there is to know about the roles that animals
experienced in wars past and in more recent times, however we are learning all the
time – particularly as we encounter relatives of animal handlers, who have shared a
wealth of anecdotes with us. We pass this knowledge on to those we encounter on
school visits, in the resources we provide for a range of Key Stages and during talks
that we are pleased to provide for visitors to the Museums.
School Visits
We can visit schools in the vicinity of the Museums that we visit (with or without donkeys!) to provide talks and a range of workshops. Curators and archivists are welcome to join us, to further connections with their local schools. Or, schools may choose to visit the Museum, with the added bonus of getting close to a wonderful range of artefacts and exploring history within the unique atmosphere that being present, in a Museum full of exciting treasures, gives.
Resources for Teachers/Educators
We provide a broad range of resources and a list of useful materials/contacts that we’ve found helpful too. Some of us are retired teachers and continuously on the hunt for new, exciting ways to share our love of history, literature and the arts and to develop our crafting skills too! We can create resources/bespoke activities that relate to specific exhibitions, pop-ups, themes within a Museum. Just let us know what you would like to create and we can give you a hand.
Museum Talks
Some of the Museums that we visit hold ‘Talks at the Museum’ evenings – we are happy to talk to your guests about The Richmond Purple Poppies Tour, or about 'Animals in War as represented in Art’, accompanied by linked workshops of your choice.

Support for Museums in planning Education Programmes with local Schools and/or community groups
We have considerable experience of supporting museums in the setting up of schools'/community groups’ programmes and can work with our Museum partners to evolve and develop strong teaching, learning and sharing partnerships.

Safeguarding and Data Protection
Our Lead for the Tour is CRB checked and certification can be obtained on request from northerndonks@gmail.com. We are very mindful of strict safeguarding and data protection procedures.
We provide and issue consent forms to all attending our workshops, tours and other events and request that all staff whether Tour/ Museum/School/participating organisations, other participants, members of the press and press photographers know that these must be completed and given to the organiser of the Tour. Museums will have, within their own safeguarding policies, guidance in how to proceed to protect their most vulnerable visitors and this should be followed at all times.
With regard to data protection: we will share your data where we are obliged to by
law. We will never sell your information. We will keep your information secure; we will
never keep your information for longer than we need to, and we aim to always keep
it up to date and correct. We will not share your details with any third party, other
than those who assist in our operation of the Tour (e.g. printers of our magazines)
and not in any way that is outside the aims of The Richmond Purple Poppies Tour.
