The Purple Poppies Tour reaches The Rifles Berkshire Wiltshire Museum, Salisbury
The Purple Poppies are joined by a beautifully crafted Quilt and Children’s Artwork
1st July, 2026

The Poppies have now reached the recently refurbished museum that stands close to Salisbury Cathedral: The Rifles Berkshire & Wiltshire Museum.
They are accompanied by The Tour’s most recent project, a Quilt/Wall Hanging crafted by members and friends of The Donkey Breed Society’s Northern Region, with contributions from as far away as Australia!
The Quilt commemorates all the brave animals that have served in past and more recent conflicts across the globe and presents unique designs depicted in stitching, crocheting, fabric paint, felt work, bobbin work, appliqué and montage. It has been beautifully put together by DBS(NR) member Sarah Pennell.

Framed artwork from primary school children and members of Brownie, Rainbows and Scouts groups that took part in craft workshops recently at The Royal Three Counties Show, Malvern is also being displayed.
Tour Lead, Sarah Booth said, ‘the skills and emerging skills of all who have participated in these incredible projects is a joy to see. The interest in and excitement for the projects has inspired young and old to become immersed in crafts that some have not encountered before. Benefits have been several-fold, the crafting has brought to light the memories of roles that animals in the war fulfilled and ensured that we remember them, as well as bringing a sense of achievement and well-being to those participating in the act of crafting.’
